Leon Spears began his academic career by first earning two Bachelor of Arts degrees—one in Philosophy and another in English—from Howard University.  He then pursued and acquired the distinctive Therapeutic Crisis Intervention certification from Cornell University.  His academic career continued at The George Washington University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science where he earned the elite Homeland Security Emergency Preparedness and Response graduate certificate as well as a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management, where the focused field of study was Crisis & Emergency Risk Management.  Overwhelmed by his vibrant personality and strong leadership qualities, The George Washington University nominated him for the prestigious Presidential Management Fellowship.  As the consummate professional with the willing desire to always stay current with innovative trends, methods, and practices in the field, Mr. Spears continually augments his education by completing new courses offered through FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland.  He is the founder and chief operator of LNS Consulting, L.L.C.—an emergency preparedness and consequence management firm.

Prior to pursuing his career in consequence management, Mr. Spears did extensive studies in the field of nursing and worked as a clinical technician in the world-renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital Emergency Department, where he had the fortunate opportunity to train and advise U.S. Secret Service candidates on how to enhance their basic emergency medicine life-saving skills.  For many years, he was a dedicated volunteer firefighter for the Prince George’s County Fire Department, where—even today, he currently holds an active Emergency Medical Technician certification.

In addition to providing his clients with outstanding emergency preparedness counsel, Mr. Spears continuously seeks opportunities to serve others.  On occasion, he trains in Virginia with the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department’s Community Emergency Response Team.  And most recently, he participated in the Washington Metropolitan Area’s first large-scale chemical/radiological mass casualty training event hosted by the National Medical Response Team to assess the team’s effectiveness against an attack from a weapon of mass destruction/disruption.  His waking desire is to consistently defend the United States’ citizens, assets, institutions, and national interests from all hazards, security threats, and acts of terrorism.
