Dennis Egan
Strategic Business Advisor / Mentoring Partner
Email: dennis@lnsconsultingfirm.com

Dennis Egan is currently an assistant professor at The George Washington University’s Institute of Crisis, Disaster & Risk Management.  The thought-provoking course he teaches is entitled “Risk and Vulnerability Assessment Methodologies for Natural and Technological Hazards.”  As a research scientist, Mr. Egan’s most recent project has consisted of measuring regional trends in maritime criminal activity; his intensely difficult challenge is to understand the underlying factors of piracy and armed robbery against maritime vessels by detecting as early as possible the overlapping operational attributes and emerging indicators of maritime terrorism.

He is the principal owner of Egan Engineering Support Services Company (www.eess.us) a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business organized as a limited liability company that specializes in technical representation, field evaluation, and system integration of homeland security solutions.  In the recent years, Mr. Egan supported the U.S. Coast Guard’s collaborative effort with the Government of Singapore in assessing the use of integrated disease surveillance systems associated with SARS and Avian influenza outbreaks.  He has provided anti-terrorism consultation for the Philippine Government in port security assessments and has conducted direct counter-terrorism exercise support of Philippine Navy SEAL teams.  Designated an American Society of Mechanical Engineers Fellow, he currently consults in risk-based decision-making with the Office of Grants and Training of the Department of Homeland Security.

For thirty years, Mr. Egan served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a commissioned officer with substantive experience gained in national security, force protection security operations, and military logistics support.  As the U.S. Coast Guard’s senior service planner, he was responsible for planning and exercising nation-wide civil emergency contingencies and overall Continuity of Operations (COOP) programs for the Coast Guard; his knowledge of natural and technological disaster preparedness is profound.

Previously, Mr. Egan has served the White House as a member of both the National Performance Review (currently named the National Partnership for Reinventing Government) and the Federal Interagency Coordinating Council for Science, Engineering & Technology by assisting the operation of virtual reality and training simulators for national preparedness purposes.

He currently holds a Top Secret security clearance and has recently held assignments that required this high-level authorization.
